Turf Aerating is the process of removing cores. This process is recommended yearly, either in the spring (April) or fall (October). Below are the benefits of aerating:
- Cultivates and loosens hard, compacted soils which result in deeper, thicker, healthier roots.
- Allows life-giving air, water and nutrients to penetrate thatch and soil to where they are needed: the root system.
- Speeds up natural soil microbes which ‘break down’ the thatch barrier.
- Increases the turf’s resistance to drought, disease and insect infestation.
- Improves your lawn’s appearance by increasing turf thickness, vigor and overall health.
Most compacted soils are caused by poor drainage and poor topsoil. Many soils, such as our own mix, have a high percentage of clay that will become hard and compacted over time. Aeration restores air and water into these tightly compacted soils, giving them new life. |
