Watering

All Plants
All plants should be checked at least once a week for proper watering. Before watering, check the soil. If dry, slowly soak the surface of the “root zone” with water until the root system is saturated. Allow the soil to dry out before watering again.

Lawns
New sod should be soaked a minimum of once a day, depending on rainfall, to keep it moist until it becomes rooted, usually three weeks. Mow the grass when it reaches three inches. Use a mower set at 2 1/2 inches. Let the sod dry slightly before mowing to minimize footprints and mower damage.

New seed should be kept moist until the first cutting. Then, reduce the watering frequency, but increase the amount enough to soak the soil to a depth of 6 inches. Follow the same mowing instructions as sod.

Established lawns should be mowed to a height of 2 1/2 inches. In spring, the first cut should be at 2 inches in order to remove dead tips of the grass blades left over from dormancy. Established lawns should be watered 1 1/2 - 2 inches per week all in one application.
